What does color reveal about you?
In this blog we are going to have a bit of fun and delve into the wonderful world of COLOR!
So let's start with the basics. There are only 3 colors that we see in...red, yellow and blue. Every other color is a combination created out of these 3 primary colors. Color is defined as "the characteristic of human visual perception described through the categorization of names to define these visuals" (ok, so that is turning something pretty into dull as can be). What this means is that we define and perceive each color by it's given name, and to be honest we have an endless amount of names for every color. So come with me as we delve deeper into the actual psyche of color (because truthfully that boring definition doesn't even cover how we FEEL about colors, why we prefer certain colors, and why they can affect our emotions the way they do.}
Where on the color wheel do you find you look at first?
Choose your color
While the meanings of colors can vary slightly from culture to culture, there are a few common concepts that cross all the borders. One of those principles is that color is a form of nonverbal communication (the meanings of colors can change daily based on the individuals perception, but there are a few standard definitions that we will stick to here).
Let's explore various colors and see what they represent, and how we can use them more effectively in our surroundings.
Red has long been known as a power color, and you'll often see politicians wearing red ties during debates or public appearances. That's because red frequently is associated with feelings of power, action, and energy. It is a warm and generally positive color that we associate with general needs.
Ever notice that protective or action related signs are red?
There is a reason for that, red is the most visible color on the spectrum, and red can move us to action.
Think of the feelings you think of when you think red...love, leadership, and even sexy come to mind (think of a red rose). In some cultures red is good luck.
If red is your favorite color you are probably extroverted and optimistic, courageous and confident. You are also most likely action oriented and physically active. So keep gravitating to red...it's spurring you on to big things!
For decorating, try adding red as an accent wall or red accessories to add those energy bursts to your space. Pillows, floral arrangements, and even curtains are a great way to bring your favorite color home.
